Today 's journel entry about Malcolm X

Andrew Francis

In the reading of Malcolm X ,I saw the importance of reading. In his story ,he talked about how reading was a tool he used to cure his curiosity . He wanted to learned how to read an speak properly because it helped him understand the world better. It gave him a different out look on life. In his story, he states that if people heard him speak weather it was on television or in person, they would think that he had an education far beyond eighth grade. Dur ring his time in prison, he studied the dictionary because he want expand his vocabulary. When he studied the dictionary, he realized that there allot of words that existed . Reading the dictionary exposed him to a different world far beyond he world he knew. The dictionary helped Malcolm to know about different kinds of animal and other places existed. Reading gave Malcolm a second chance at life. Malcolm had an intrinsic feeling to learn more about the world because of the simple fact he could read. In prison, he also read about black history far beyond slavery in America. He read about black empires that existed in early African history.

This story taught me that reading is very important It helps you become more knowledgeable about life. For example, I read Times magazine all the time. Time magazine usually writes educational article or about world events. When I read these articles, it informs me about life and what is going on in the world. Reading can open up a world that you never knew before. I enjoy reading because it informs about life and about the world that I live in.
